A Welcome Stop on the Roof of Madeira
After the climb to Pico Ruivo — Madeira's highest point — Casa de Abrigo do Pico Ruivo offers a genuinely welcoming place to rest. The large communal room is open to all hikers, with modern styling that feels a world away from the rugged trail outside.
What's on Offer
Warm up with tea, coffee, or a glass of poncha or Madeira wine, and refuel with honey cake or other homemade sweets. There's also a small library of island-related books and a selection of local handicrafts and souvenirs.
Good to Know
- Location: Pico Ruivo, reached via the PR1 trail from Achada do Teixeira or Encumeada
