Do I need to book activities in advance?

No reservation is needed to visit Madeira's beaches, viewpoints, or somehiking trails. Becareful here some Hiking trails PR Trail require a reservation! Popular guided tours, boat trips, and some restaurants do fill up, especially in peak season (July-September), so we recommend booking those in advance.

What is the best time to visit Madeira?

Madeira is a year-round destination thanks to its mild "eternal spring" climate. Spring (April-May) is best for wildflowers and the Flower Festival, summer (June-September) is driest and best for swimming and boat trips, and whale and dolphin watching is possible year-round but especially good April-September. Even winter stays mild, with New Year's famous for one of the world's largest fireworks displays over Funchal Bay.

Where can I find information about weather and current conditions?

You can check current weather conditions and forecasts on our 'When to Go' page, or via IPMA (Portugal's official weather service). We also recommend dressing in layers, since weather can change quickly in Madeira's mountains.
